BPL 3 Match 7 Review: Rangpur Riders v Dhaka Dynamites, Shakib stars for Riders in a commanding win: The Rangpur Riders got back to winning ways with a convincing win over Dhaka Dynamites. Winning the toss, Shakib decided to bat first and put scoreboard pressure on the opposition. Simmons, Perera, Sammy and Senanayake were the overseas stars picked by the Riders as they decided to rest Misbah. Skipper Sangakkara, Nasir Jamshed, ten Doeschate and Yasir Shah were the international stars for the Dhaka franchise. The Riders hammered 176/6 which proved a bridge too far for the Dynamites.
Lendl Simmons was in need of some runs and produced the kind of batting he is known for. He picked up the pace from the 3rd over smashing Nasir Hossain for a four and a six. Soumya Sarkar made a brisk 18 off just 10 balls that included 4 boundaries, before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman. At the end of 5 overs, the Riders were 43/1. Abul Hasan was spanked for 6, 4, and 4 by Simmons on the last 3 deliveries of the next over. He hit 5 fours and 3 sixes scoring a sparkling 51 off 39 balls before being dismissed in the 11th over.
Mohammad Mithun continued his good form hammering 34 off 22 balls including 3 fours and 2 sixes. He, Sammy, Perera and Al-Amin fell in quick succession leaving the team in need for a big finish. The Sri Lankan though made a decent contribution of 27 from 20 balls with the help of 2 fours and as many sixes. The skipper Shakib took it upon himself and played an important cameo for his team. His unbeaten 24 off 15 which included 3 fours took the Riders to a competitive score.
In reply, the Dynamites started on a bad note as Shakib, opening the bowling, cleaned up Shamsur Rahman for 2 and two balls later sent Nasir Jamshed packing. The Pakistani left-hander tried to go for a slog sweep however holed out at deep square leg. The previous delivery was dispatched by him over long-on for a maximum and he tried to get the same result but failed to get the timing and elevation needed. Arafat Sunny picked up the wickets of Mosaddek Hossain and Sanga to reduce the Dynamites to 53/4 from 10.1 overs.
The Lankan legend was the top scorer of the innings with 29 off 28 balls and was looking in fine touch having struck 3 fours. Perera removed ten Doeschate in the 13th over and followed it up with that of Abul Hasan in the 15th and ended the hopes of the Dhaka outfit. Farhad Reza was castled by Shakib followed by Nasir Hossain who was caught at short third-man attempting a reverse sweep. Shakib bowled a marvelous match-winning spell of 4/16 while others also contributed effectively. Yasir Shah was removed for 12 by Perera and Abu Jayed finished the match with the wicket of Mosharraf Hossain. Perera bowled a spell of 3/25 however Shakib was the obvious choice for the Man-of-the-Match award.
