Gujarat Lions coach Brad Hodge has requested compensation for the players who had represented Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the Indian Premier League. In a tweet he made yesterday, Hodge asked if there was any chance of getting compensation for the players of the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers.

He was prompted to make this request following BCCI’s decision to reimburse Indian seamer Mohammed Shami for missing out this season of the IPL due to injury.

BCCI paid INR 2, 23, 12, 500 to Shami citing “Loss of pay for IPL season 2015 due to injury.” The pace bowler was sidelined from the 2015 edition of the IPL due to a knee injury which he picked up during the Adelaide Test in Australia.

Hodge posted a tweet which read, “I see Mohammed Shami got compensated for injury during IPL in 2015 from BCCI. Any chance they can compensate the Kochi tuskers players.”

Kochi Tuskers Kerala made their IPL debut in the 2011 edition of the IPL. They didn’t have  a great start to finished eighth among ten teams. The team was subsequently suspended they on account of failure to provide the necessary bank guarantee to cover annual fee.

Hodge was the leading run scorer for the franchise. The hard-hitting batsman was brought to the side for USD 425,000 and made 285 runs in 14 matches. The team led by skipper Mahela Jayawardene had the likes of VVS Laxman, Brendon McCullum, Ravindra Jadeja and Muttiah Muralitharan in it.

In the 2012 edition, Hodge was bought bu Rajasthan Royals for USD 180,000. Hodge currently is the head coach of the new IPL franchises Gujrat Lions led by Suresh Raina.
