Tim David impressed everyone with some of his batting masterclasses during the recently conducted Indian Premier League (IPL). To note, he was bagged by the franchise Mumbai Indians at a cost of INR 8.25 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction. Tim David has dual nationality of both Singapore and Australia. However, the 26-year-old is yet to represent Australia at the highest level.
Expressing his opinion on the matter, former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has asked the authorities to tweak some rules which are keeping David out of the Australian team as the batter doesn’t have a First-Class contract with any of the domestic teams. The former Australian spinner said that David must be included in the Australian squad for ICC 2022 T20 World Cup to benefit the Aussies.
Australia has got to change that rule: Brad Hogg
“The other issue, Australia have a rule that if you’re not contracted with a first-class state team to represent Australia in T20Is. He doesn’t have that contract. Australia has got to change that rule. You can’t have a rule as stupid as that, keeping a player like him out,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.
Hogg also said that David can be an ideal candidate to bat for Australia in the slog overs. “You bring Smith up from the lower order and open the batting with him. Stoinis comes up at No.5 and Tim David comes in at No.6. Tim David, for me around the globe, is the best No.6 that you can have. He is the only player that consistently comes in in the final four overs and finds the boundary straightaway. It is a unique talent to have and Australia has got to utilize it,” Hogg added.
