Brendon McCullum and Chris Lynn strike conversation on Twitter to talk about Andre Russell
Russell's breathtaking knock has been drawing widespread applause.
Kolkata Knight Riders allrounder Andre Russell produced yet another brilliant display of power hitting as the two-time champions came storming back from a losing position beat Royal Challengers by 5 wickets. The win was Kolkata Knight Riders’ third win of the season and incredibly Russell has bagged the Man of the Match awards in all those wins. On the other hand, the Royal Challengers suffered their fifth consecutive loss of the season.
Entering the game on the back of four straight losses, the Royal Challengers finally put up a performance worth winning. With Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers finally looking in their elements, Royal Challengers put up a massive total of 205 for 3 – their highest total this season and also the highest-ever score against the Knight Riders. However, just like the likes of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab, they could not find a way past Russell and ended up on the losing side.
In-form Russell smashed a quickfire 48 off 13 balls to take his team over the finishing line with five balls to spare. Knight Riders needed 53 from the last three overs when Russell began his assault. He hit three sixes in the 18th over before taking Tim Southee to the cleaners in the following over. He hit the New Zealand ace for four sixes and a four to all but seal the game for the Knight Riders. Shubman Gill then took a single off the first ball in the 20th over to end the game.
Russell’s breathtaking knock has been drawing widespread applause. And former Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Brendon McCullum also joined the bandwagon. The legendary cricketer pretty much summed up all the team’s plight this season as he tweeted:
“Sheesh! #DreRuss Where can you bowl to him”
Knight Riders star Chris Lynn soon replied to his former Brisbane Heat teammate, writing: “Bro! Deadset he is next level”
