McCullum has played some sensational innings on 18th April but nothing better than the 158 in the inaugural match IPL way back in 2008.

The first leg of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League was being played in Dubai. The third match of the season was between ever favourites CSK and the rejuvenated Kings XI Punjab. Chennai skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bat first and then what followed was carnage.

Brendon McCullum opening alongside the Caribbean player Dwayne Smith went ballistic attacking the Punjab bowlers. Chennai was buoyed by the way how seamlessly their openers settled in. Brendon ran riot and did not discriminate, treating lesser known Parvinder Awana and the reputed Mitchell Johnson with same aggression.

The Kiwi batsman completed his half-century off just 30 deliveries and was dismissed in 13th over of the innings in quest of getting quick runs. He scored 67 off just 45 balls which included 5 sixes and four boundaries. Chennai scored 205, largely thanks to their opening stand. Punjab, in reply, chased down the target with the help of brilliant innings from Maxwell and Miller but not before McCullum gave them a run for their money.
