'Bring it home boys'- Virat Kohli extends his heartfelt wishes for the India U19 team ahead of the final
India are the favourites to win the title for the fifth time.
The 2020 ICC U19 World Cup will reach its climax on Sunday when the defending champions India will lock horns with Bangladesh for the rights to be called the best youth team in the world. For both sides, it is a win-win situation. For India, it is a chance to once again assert why they possess the best bench-strength in the world by claiming a record fifth U-19 World Cup (after having previously won in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018) while for Bangladesh, it will be an opportunity to claim why they are the most improved side in world cricket.
Priyam Garg will have an opportunity to emulate the feats of former World Cup-winning captains like Mohammad Kaif [2000], Virat Kohli [2008], Unmukt Chand [2012] and Prithvi Shaw [2018] when his side will take on the Jnior Tigers on Sunday and wishes galore for the young Indian colts from all around the country.
Former U19 World Cup-winning captain and the current leader of the Indian cricket team Virat Kohli joined the rest of the country in wishing the Priyam Garg-led India colts for the final against Bangladesh on Sunday. “Sending my best wishes to the Indian U19 Cricket Team ahead of their World Cup final. The nation is behind you, bring it home boys. #U19CWC #IndianCricket @BCCI,” Virat Kohli wrote in this tweet.
India’s campaign thus far has been imperious
Having been tipped as the leading title contenders in the lead-up to the tournament. Yashasvi Jaiswal has spearheaded the batting unit with aplomb. With 312 runs in five games at an average of 156 which also includes a hundred against arch-rivals Pakistan in the semi-finals- a game, India won by ten wickets.
The fast bowling trio of Kartik Tyagi, Sushant Mishra, and Akash Singh has led the way with the ball while the spin-duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Atharva Ankolekar have chipped in with match-winning performances with both bat and ball. India is unbeaten in the tournament thus far. In fact, they are yet to drop a game in U19 World Cups since their 2016 final defeat to West Indies.
Bangladesh wouldn’t be a pushover though. They are one of the most improved sides in the world in the past few years, and we could be in for a mouth-watering encounter.
