British High Commission hosts Iftaar party for Pakistan cricket team
The British High Commission hosted an Iftaar dinner for Pakistan cricket team to send them off for the upcoming England tour at the new British Council Library on Thursday. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar M Khan, executive committee head Najam Sethi, team manager Intikhab Alam, director media Amjad Bhatti and other PCB and British High Commission officials attended the Iftar dinner.
The event also had some light moments as the British High Commissioner readied up for some cricketing action, facing a delivery from star leg-spinner Yasir Shah. Wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed kept the wickets with Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq in the slips.
Speaking at the occasion, British HC Thomas Drew extended his best wishes to both England and Pakistan teams and said, “I am delighted to be hosting an Iftaar dinner for Pakistan cricket team ahead of their departure to the United Kingdom to play against England.
“I particularly pleased to be hosting them at the newly-opened British Council Library in Lahore. Libraries are a centre of cultural and education. It was only a few weeks ago that I came here to open this magnificent library for the people of Lahore,” he added.

“Education is our largest investment in Pakistan. But we know that sport matters too – and both play important roles in linking our two countries. Cricket has proved particularly pivotal to bring our people close together. This sport is in the DNA of both Pakistanis and the British people,” he concluded.
