'Bumrah Who' - Twitter ecstatic as Mohammed Siraj produces double-wicket maiden in 3rd ODI
Mohammed Siraj rattled England with a sensational first over in the match.
India suffered a telling setback as Jasprit Bumrah missed the all-important third ODI against England. Mohammed Siraj has been named as the replacement for the Indian pace sensation, and the bowler didn’t disappoint either by scalping two massive scalps in his first over of the match.
Rohit Sharma called it right at the toss and put in the hosts to bat first on a lively pitch at Old Trafford. Mohammed Shami opened the bowling for the Indian team and was greeted with three boundaries in his first over by Jason Roy, who has struggled for runs lately. After the belligerence in the first over, all eyes were on Mohammed Siraj, who was running in to bowl his first over of the series.
And so far, India are not missing Bumrah one bit as Siraj bowled a sensational double wicket maiden in his first outing of the series. He first dismissed the dangerous Jonny Bairstow after inducing a false shot from the batter, and then followed up by sending former England skipper Joe Root back to the pavilion by squaring him up an absolute peach of delivery on a duck, his second of the series.
Manchester track predominantly favours team batting first
The pitch in Manchester usually assists the bowlers early in the innings, and with the overcast conditions, the new ball bowlers will certainly have some joy in the match, but once the pitch starts settling, run-scoring becomes much easier as the ball comes nicely onto the bat and the batter can trust the bounce on this surface.
The Indian skipper’s decision to bowl first in this venue was a bit puzzling given the recent record, which favours the team batting first. The team’s bowling second at Old Trafford has won eight out of the last nine matches on this venue. India will hope that their bowlers can replicate the performances from the previous two matches and restrict the hosts to a mediocre total in their first innings of the third and final ODI.
