One of Australia’s disgraced trio, Cameron Bancroft, is set to make his comeback to the game as his nine-month ban ends on December 29. He will be playing for the Perth Scorchers in the ongoing edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). He was banned by Cricket Australia (CA) for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal in Newlands earlier this year in a Test match against South Africa.
He was caught in the cameras while trying to change the condition of the ball with sandpaper. Bancroft panicked after it was shown on the big screen and tried to put it in his pants which further added the trouble for him. Moreover, the Australian skipper then Steve Smith admitted to trying to roughen up the ball in order to get reverse swing led to a lot of flak for the national side as the bans followed for David Warner, Smith and Bancroft.
Soon after Smith gave his first press conference after a tearful media confrontation in March, Cameron Bancroft has now opened up on how he spent these nine months revealing that he almost thought of giving up the game for Yoga.
Cricket isn’t for you
“Maybe cricket isn’t for you, you’ll ask yourself … will you return? Yoga will be such a fulfilling experience,” Bancroft wrote in his letter for the West Australian Newspaper. He also went on to add that it was time for him to return to Cricket not thinking much about what he did nine months and how did it affect his career.
“While you do not look that different, on the inside you are a vastly different man to the bloke who made that mistake in South Africa. You know you cannot say sorry enough, but actually it is time you allow your cricket to be about what you have learnt and use this opportunity to make a great impact,” Bancroft further added.
