Dinesh Karthik who is considered the potential no. 4 batsman for India in limited-overs cricket is keen to cash in on the opportunities that are coming his way. He made a comeback into the national side on the back of some sensational and consistent performances in the domestic arena. He has also justified his inclusion by performing decently so far in the first two ODIs of the three-match series against New Zealand. However, it remains to be seen if Karthik is consistent enough to retain his place in the side which has been a problem for him in the past as well.

Team India is currently struggling with the no. 4 slot in the batting line-up and have tried as many as eleven players since 2015 World Cup. But no one has made the position their own and now Karthik is being looked at as a leading candidate. His scores of 37 and 64* in the middle order has done no harm to his selection and has merited a longer run in the side. Another good inning in the decider in Kanpur on Sunday will cement his position for an extended time.

Comfortable to bat at any position

DK has cleared that he is not thinking about the World Cup 2019 just yet and wants to perform for the team whenever given a chance. He is also confident of a good show on whichever position he bats. He played very well on a slow wicket in Pune and held one end in the chase which impressed Virat Kohli and the team management. He would now love to play a few match-winning knocks in the upcoming games to seal the deal in the middle order.

“At this point of time, I don’t want to say I am comfortable with number 4 or 5. From where I come, whatever opportunities given to me by the coach and the captain, I am going to be honest and say I am going to play no matter where it is. I am at that stage where I feel that I can contribute wherever I bat. I keep concentrating on the things I should be doing rather than what will happen if I bat at four or should I be batting at four. I feel I should be taking the energy away from that and focus more on how I am going to bat,” Karthik was quoted saying as per Deccan Herald.
