[WATCH] IPL 2025: Virat Kohli yells at Rajat Patidar after mix-up during PBKS vs RCB clash
Rajat Patidar walked back after adding 12 runs to the tally.
During the ongoing IPL 2025 encounter between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Mullanpur, when the game was nearing its climax, an animated exchange took place between Virat Kohli and skipper Rajat Patidar. With RCB chasing a target of 158, Kohli, having already scored a fine half-century, was keen on pushing for a double. However, a mix-up in the 15th over nearly led to a wicket.
Kohli, after pulling a delivery from Arshdeep Singh to deep midwicket, took off for a second run, but Patidar hesitated, staying at the non-striker’s end. This led to both batters being stranded at the same end, with Kohli desperately trying to get back. An underpar throw from Shashank Singh, followed by a missed direct hit from Shreyas Iyer, almost triggered a run-out. Kohli, visibly frustrated with Patidar.
Despite the heated moment, the star batter smashed a boundary over point to release some of the pressure right on the next delivery. He followed it up with a series of boundaries, including a six, to further get RCB near the target. Unfortunately for Patidar, his stay at the crease was short-lived. He attempted to hammer Yuzvendra Chahal but was caught at long-on for just 12 runs.
However, the visiting team eventually won the game by seven wickets. Meanwhile, Kohli earned yet another Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 54-ball 73. With this win, RCB have moved up to the third spot with 10 points and a NRR of 0.472. On the other hand, PBKS are just below, at the fourth spot with the same points and NRR of 0.177.
"Very important game for us. When you go from eight [points] to ten, it makes a massive difference. We've set ourselves up nicely... Dev[dutt] can play around me, maybe Rajat [Patidar] can play around me. There's always a temptation to keep going the same way. First two games we had learnings, and last game was a shortened game. We know in a run chase in T20 cricket, one partnership is enough. If need be, I can accelerate. A very good auction for us. We got the team we wanted. They knew exactly whom they wanted... It's coming together nicely. That was missing in all the other seasons. You can see that intensity and feistiness," Kohli said at the post-match interview.
