Caribbean Premier League 2020: Day 13 – Twitter Reactions
It was the day of exits, as with the wash-out, the Patriots’ journey officially came to an end, whereas the Tridents knocked themselves out after another disparaging defeat.
From coming into this tournament as the defending champions to be making a hat-trick of sub-100 totals and facing thrashing defeats match after match, the fortunes of Barbados Tridents have turned upside down from the last year. The 26th match saw action between the Barbados Tridents and the Guyana Amazon Warriors, who closed the doors of the next stage upon the Tridents after defeating them by 6 wickets with 34 balls to spare.
A couple of days after being reduced to 27 for 8 and eventually tumbling out for 92 against the same opposition, the Tridents could not better themselves as they ended up 3 runs shorter than even that. Though not as jolted as the last outing, their 7th wicket fell at 69 as it again came down to Mitchell Santner, who alongside Rashid Khan had saved them from humiliation in the previous game.
Saviour Santner
Santner partnered with Nyeem Young this time around as their identical 18-run knocks somehow took their total to 89 at the loss of 7 wickets. Jason Holder’s charges were thoroughly bamboozled by the guile of Imran Tahir and Romario Shepherd, both of whom bagged 3 wickets each. Using Shephard in the Powerplay turned out to be a successful strategy as he inflicted successive blows with the wickets of Johnson Charles and Rashid Khan- who was promoted to No. 3 for going gaga with his pinch-hitting.
Later, Chris Green and Imran Tahir tightened the noose in the middle-overs and dried up runs to an unreal extent before the Warriors finally set themselves a target of 90 to win and knock the defending champs out of the league.
Exactly like ‘Warriors’
Coming out to chase a rather underwhelming total, opener Brandon King scored a golden duck for himself, giving some hopes to the opponents of setting up the game. However, Chandrapaul Hemraj continued playing his shots with ease, and Tridents’ shoddy work in the field saw a couple of catches dropped. And with 89 on the board, dropped catches could have never helped their cause.
Jason Holder tried to make things work with the ball and he did bag a couple of wickets giving away only 10 from his four overs, however, Shimron Hetmyer and Ross Taylor’s easy-paced 33 and 16 respectively were sufficient for the Warriors to finish off the chase in 14.2 overs.
Rains and curtains for Patriots
Earlier in the day, the 25th match between a team that has hit rock bottom harder than the Tridents (read St Kitts and Nevis Patriots) and Jamaica Tallawahs, was entirely washed-out. The Patriots, for a change, went off to a flying start as Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn added 46 in 5 overs before rain interrupted the game and led to the abandonment. It was the day of exits, as with the wash-out the Patriots’ journey officially came to an end, whereas the Tridents knocked themselves out after another disparaging defeat.
