The Maruti Swift car in which Prabhakaran was travelling was completely smashed. The 26-year-old had also represented Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy.
In a tragedic turn of events, a young cricketer from Tamil Nadu died in a car accident. The cause of the death was an accident as two cars carrying league players collided with each and fell off a bridge. The incident happened near the Paramathi Valur in Namakkal district on Monday evening. The deceased cricketer is identified to be D Prabhakaran of Thanjavur. Prabhakaran was a promising young league cricketer from Tamil Nadu.
On the occasion of Pongal festival, all the players went to Namakkal district to play a local cricket match. They were returning to Paramathi Velur in two cars to stay in a hotel after the match. However, it wasn’t to be it as something else was written in their fate. On their way back, they met with an accident that proved to be fatal.
Prabhakaran died on the spot while others sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to government hospitals in Salem and Erode.
Police’s take on the incident
The cops said that drivers of both the cars were driving the vehicles in a rash manner. The Nallur Kandampalayam police registered a case and further investigations were on.
Both the cars were over-speeding, which is the saddest part of it. Reports in the Tamil Nadu media suggest that that the drivers were attempting to avoid hitting a woman who was crossing the Salem-Madurai highway. Just as they neared Kandamapalyam, the driver of one of the cars spotted a woman on the road.
To prevent injuring her, he suddenly applied breaks to the car. But since both the cars were racing on the highway, the other driver failed to notice it. The second car rammed into the first one and both the cars tumbled off the bridge. Moreover, the cars fell into a river off the bridge causing further damage.
