Cecil Wright aged 82, has over 7000 wickets against his name
Cecil Wright is a West Indies cricketer who had played alongside West Indies cricket legends Sir Viv Richards, Sir Frank Worrell, Sir Garfield Sobers and Joel Garner. Wright is currently aged 82, and his pace has gone down overs the years, but he is still bowling the right lengths and is still good at uprooting any batsman.
“I’ve been lucky with injuries and I have always kept fit so I will keep playing. Some of the lads I play against might not expect much from an opponent who is approaching 80 but I’m still good enough to get anyone out, even if my fast bowl is a bit of a medium bowl nowadays,” said Cecil Wright.

In his earlier days, Wright had moved to Oldham in Greater Manchester in the 1950s to play league cricket and also represented Jamaica. Known as ‘Cec’ to his friends, Cecil Wright is still opening the bowling and is leading the bowling attack from the front. While playing against Milnrow in Pennine Cricket League 2nd XI Championship last Saturday, Wright had bowling figures of 2 for 8, in 9 overs he bowled which include 4 maidens as well. He has also represented Crompton in Central Lancashire League.
In an interview with The Sun he said,”I still feel fit and my passion to play the game certainly has not dwindled with each passing year. I feel great and I feel that I can still compete and offer something with the ball – I can still get people out. I can still teach these young batmen a thing or two (laughing). He added,” Once a fast bowler, always a fast bowler – sure, I’ve lost a lot of pace, but hey, I can still make it tough for batsmen. They have to work hard for their runs against me, even if I am old enough to be the grandfather for a lot of them!”
