We often term cricket to be a gentlemen’s game that unfolds great sportsman spirit. However, one notices some serious, as well as light banters on the field when two teams are playing against each other. Until that stays within the frame of rules, it still is fine but then there happen certain events that disturb the environment of the play and put the game under the scanner. A recent incident is one such instance that has shaken the cricketing world.
In Kent, a severe fight broke out while a charity match was in progress and it further turned out to be massive when the players were attacked. The bat-wielding thugs started attacking the players from nowhere and thus everybody was perplexed as they didn’t see it coming. This is reported to be happened during the tail end of the match at Mote Park Cricket Club in Maidstone on Sunday.
The whole happening got recorded on camera which went viral on Twitter. The clip shows a few of the players arguing on the ground before a bat-wielding man chimed in into the scenario from nowhere. All of these happened during a cricket match that was played for a good cause of raising money for the people who are struggling amidst these difficult times.
Cricket tournament organizer opens up on the incident
The cricket tournament was aimed at collecting money for “Share for Care.” It is intended to provide assistance to the people who are in need of some medical help in Pakistan, as reported by KentOnline. In the video, one person is seen on the floor as others start waving their bats. As a result, the match was abandoned with some players getting injured as well.
Shehzad Akram who was the organizer of the event stated that few people walked in and started attacking the players. He seemed to point out that they were some mischief makers who created the chaos for no reason. He added that such things aren’t accepted and put forward his sheer disgrace on what happened on the cricket field.
“We tried our best for charity and these lunatics just spoiled it. At the end of the day, we were having the final match and it was the last couple of overs when some guys came on the pitch and attacked a few of the players. I don’t know what the main reason was behind it, but there were some troublemakers in the ground. They started fighting with their bats and hitting people. We don’t tolerate this behavior,” he told KentOnline.
