Ravi Shastri has been in the eye of the storm ever since India lost the bilateral series against England. From fans to critics, everyone has been calling for the ousting of the head coach following the abysmal performance that Team India put up against the hosts. The Virat Kohli-led side plummeted to a 1-4 defeat in the Test series owing to a batting conundrum. Recently, former India cricketer Chetan Chauhan also joined the list of the people to demand for the stepping down of Shastri.

India were touted as a strong candidate for defeating the Three Lions in their home conditions ahead of the month-long tour. However, the expectations fell through as the visitors received a severe dubbing at the hands of the English and were able to muster only a single Test victory in a five-match series. Currently, India are taking part in the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Chauhan slams Shastri

As reported by Deccan Chronicle, Chetan Chauhan has bashed Ravi Shastri for having termed the current Indian side as the ‘best travelling team in the world’. Echoing the sentiments of various former cricketers, Chauhan said, “Ravi Shastri should be removed as head coach before the Australia tour. Ravi Shastri is very good cricket commentator and he should be allowed to do so.” The former cricketer currently serves as the Uttar Pradesh Sports Minister.

Criticizing the Indian team for their lacklustre performance, especially with the bat, Chauhan commented, “Team India should have performed better. Both the teams were evenly matched. But the Indian team failed to check tail enders of England.” He also rubbished the claims made by Shastri about the current Indian team being the best travelling side and said, “I do not agree. In the 1980s, the Indian team was the best travelling team in the world.”

Prior to this, the legendary cricketers like Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly have also called for the resignation of Ravi Shastri from the all-important coaching role. Shastri was appointed as the Head Coach of the national side after former coach, Anil Kumble chose to step down following an ugly tiff with the Indian skipper.
