Chetan Chauhan explains the consequences if India boycott Pakistan in the World Cup 2019
Will India play against Pakistan in the World Cup?
There have been calls for India to boycott playing Pakistan in the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales after the dastard attack in Pulwama last week. The attack led to as many as 44 CRPF soldiers losing their lives and the nation is fuming at the moment. The Men in Blue are scheduled to face their arch-rivals on June 16 later this year and even the BCCI seems to be waiting for the Indian Government’s decision on the matter.
However, the former cricketer and the UP Cabinet Minister Chetan Chauhan feels that India shouldn’t boycott Pakistan at the mega event. He has put light on the consequences of doing the same saying that there are certain rules of the ICC in such tournaments. Chauhan also added that Team India could be fined and even banned if they don’t play Pakistan and felt that sense will prevail in this case.
ICC’s rules do not allow India to withdraw from the World Cup game against Pakistan without forfeiting points and inviting sanctions.
I think BCCI will consider this
“Not participating in global tournaments is not easy as every tournament has its rules and many participating nations. If we pull out, we may have to face consequences, could be fined or banned, I think Government and BCCI will consider this,” Chetan Chauhan was quoted as saying by India Today.
Earlier, Harbhajan Singh had also called for boycotting the Pakistan match and was of the opinion that India have the ability to qualify for the knockouts even after losing those two points. “India should not play Pakistan in the World Cup. India are powerful enough to win the World Cup without having to play Pakistan,” he had told Aaj Tak.
Bhajji also requested Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to take action against the cross-border terrorism after the latter released the statement on the matter.
