Team India’s Mr Dependable Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara will play a key role in the team’s chances of winning in South Africa. The Saurashtra batsman had an impressive voyage when India toured South Africa last time in 2013-14. He scored a century and a fifty to aggregate 311 runs from seven innings at an average of 44.42.

His recent exploits with the bat have been remarkable as well. He scored three centuries and a double century in 2017 and has been India’s batting backbone on several occasions. Pujara is currently with his wife in South Africa, from where he made a personal announcement via Twitter, saying he and his wife are expecting their first child soon.

“We are expecting our little bundle of joy this year. May the coming year be as blessed and happy for everyone as it’ll be for us,” the Test specialist wrote on his Twitter handle.

Daddy and Mom tobe

Pujara married Puja Pabari, who belongs to Gujarat’s Jamnagar district in February 2013. She is often seen cheering for her husband from the stands.

Cheteshwar’s mom passed away in 2005, after which he was raised single-handedly by his father Arvind Pujara. Mr Arvind had once said in an interview that his daughter in law has played a big role in his son’s rise as a cricketer and filled the void his deceased mother left behind.

India have a long away season ahead, during which the second highest run-scorer in Tests in 2017, Pujara will play a vital role. The Men in Blue, apart from the South Africa tour, will also be touring England, West Indies and Australia this year.

They will play South Africa in three Tests, the first of which begins on January 5 at Cape Town. The second one will be played at Centurion from 13 January, followed by the last Test at Johannesburg from 24th January. The Test series will be followed by the limited-overs leg.
