Chris Gayle, called the Universal Boss, was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League, due to poor performances last year. The swashbuckling batsman was then picked up by the Kings XI Punjab, for whom he has batted superbly in the first two games, scoring knocks of 63 and an unbeaten 104 respectively.
His second knock of 104 runs came from only 63 balls, propelling Kings XI Punjab to a total of 193/3 in their 20 overs. This was Gayle’s sixth century in the IPL. His innings included just one four and eleven sixes! He credited his knock to his daughter, who is celebrating her birthday today.
Dedicated his knock to his daughter
“A lot of people thought I’m too old. After this innings, I have nothing to prove. This hundred is dedicated to my daughter. It is her birthday tomorrow,” Gayle said after his innings which he constructed at a strike rate of 165.07.
Earlier today, he also took to Instagram to wish his daughter Krisallyna a happy birthday. He posted a cute video with her which was captioned thus – “happy birthday my love – 2nd birthday in India ?? Daddy wish you many more”
In one of his old interviews, the big-hitter once said that his daughter has his eyes and that he doesn’t get to spend much time with her due to his hectic travel schedule. Chris Gayle and partner Natasha Berridge have known each other for the past 10 years, “Mother says she has my eyes. “It’s a nice experience being a father. But I only had a short stint there. I’m looking forward to seeing her again.”
RCB regrets
Meanwhile, the RCB franchise must be regretting letting go, Chris Gayle, who once again proved why he cannot be ruled out in the shortest format of the game. Punjab will next play Kolkata Knight Riders in Eden Gardens tomorrow (21st April), and Gayle will be looking to put up another good performance at a venue where he has historically performed well.
