Chris Gayle signed off his ODI career in the final game of the 3-match ODI series against India at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. The Windies opener did score a 41-ball 72 in his final ODI innings and was greeted by the Indian players on his way through to the pavilion. Gayle has found himself on the top of many records in the ODI career. The opening batsman made his ODI debut back in 1999 and after nearly 20 years, he signed off as the leading run-getter in this format for the Windies.

1 – Chris Gayle is one of the six players and the only player from the Windies to score 10000 runs and bag 100 wickets in the ODI format. He scored 10480 runs and picked up 167 wickets in his 301-match ODI career.
2 – Chris Gayle is one of the two players from the Windies with a century and 4-fer in the same ODI. He scored an unbeaten 112 and took 4/24 against Zimbabwe in the 2003 Harare ODI. Gayle is also one of the two players with a fifty and 5-wicket haul in the same ODI match.
He scored 60 and had figures of 5/46 against Australia in the 2003 Grenada ODI. Sir Viv Richards had both the doubles in the same game when he struck 119 and took 5/41 in the 1987 Dunedin ODI against the Kiwis.
5 – Chris Gayle has the most number of 150+ scores in ODI cricket for the Windies. He is also one of the four players with five and more scores of 150+ in the format. Rohit Sharma (7), David Warner (6) and Sachin Tendulkar (5) are the other three players with five or more 150+ ODI scores.
19y 337d – Chris Gayle’s ODI career lasted 19 years and 337 days; the 4th longest career for any player in ODI cricket. Among West Indians, only Marlon Samuels (18 years and 71 days) played ODIs for more than 17 years since their debut.
19 – Chris holds the record for the fastest fifty in ODI cricket for the Windies. He brought up his fifty in only 19 balls during an ODI against England earlier in March 2019.
25 – Chris Gayle is one of the nine players with as many as 25 hundreds in ODI format. He is also the only player from the Windies with more than 20 ODI tons.
39 – Number of sixes Gayle hit during the home ODI series against England at the start of 2019. He is the only player to have hit more than 25 sixes in a single ODI series/tournament. Gayle also hit 26 maximums during the 2015 World Cup which stand second in this list.
55 – Gayle’s 55-ball hundred against England in Georgetown ODI this year is the 2nd fastest known ODI century for the Windies. Brian Lara scored a 45-ball hundred against Bangladesh in 1999. In the same game, Gayle brought up his 150 in only 85 deliveries, the 4th fastest overall and the fastest 150 in the ODI format.
56 – Gayle is one of the two players to have smashed 50+ ODI sixes in a calendar year. AB de Villiers hit as many as 58 from 18 innings in 2015 while Gayle hit 56 across 15 innings in 2019.
124 – The 39-year-old has taken 124 catches as a fielder in this format for Windies; the most by any fielder. Overall, only ten players have taken more than 124 catches in their ODI career as an outfielder.
147 – Gayle has hit 147 maximums in the Caribbean Islands in ODI cricket; the most number of ODI sixes by any player in a country. His 87 sixes against England in this format are also the most by any player against an opponent.
167 – Gayle’s 167 wickets in ODIs are the 5th most by any player for the Windies. His 167 wickets are also the 2nd most by a Windies spinner after Carl Hooper (193).
215 – Chris Gayle’s 215 against Zimbabwe in the 2015 World Cup is the only double century in the ODI format for the Windies. It was also the first double century recorded by any player in the history of World Cup.
Gayle completed his double century in 138 balls making it the fastest double ton in Men’s ODI cricket. In the same game, Gayle hit 16 sixes; the joint 2nd most by any player in an ODI inning and the most by any Windies player.
301 – Gayle featured in 301 ODI matches in his career including 298 for the Windies. He is the only player from the Caribbean Islands to have played 300+ ODI games.
331 – The Universe Boss hit a total of 331 sixes in his ODI career; only behind Shahid Afridi’s 351. No other player has hit 300 sixes in this format thus far. In fact, Gayle is the only player from the Windies with 150+ ODI maximums.
791 – Chris Gayle holds the record for scoring the most number of runs in the history of Champions Trophy. Gayle amassed 791 runs across 17 innings he played in the CT. His three centuries in the tournament are the joint-most by any player and is also the only player to hit 100+ fours (101).
10480 – He ended his career as the leading run-getter for the Windies having scored 10425 runs. Gayle’s ODI tally reads 10480 including the 55 runs he scored across three matches for the ICC World XI in 2005.
