England will play a one-off ODI versus Scotland at Edinburgh on June 10. Thereafter, they will play a five-match ODI series versus Australia and a solitary T20, which commences on June 13 in London. However, the team has been dealt with a massive blow as Chris Woakes, their premier all-rounder has been ruled out of the Scotland ODI owing to a tightness in his right quad.

Surrey’s Tom Curran has been drafted into the squad. To add to Woakes’ woes, his participation in the Australia series has also come under the clouds. The Warwickshire cricketer sustained the injury during Pakistan’s second innings at Headingley and subsequently, walked out of the field towards the end. The gravity of the issue will now be assessed following which a decision is expected to be made.

Woakes follows Stokes in the list

The English all-rounder became the second victim after Ben Stokes’ exclusion from the Scotland match because of a hamstring strain. Both have been stalwarts for the team and their absence is speculated to weaken the lineup to a large extent. Woakes was left out of the eleven in the opening Test at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium.

The hosts were mauled by nine wickets and the 29-year old’s inclusion for the second Test didn’t flop by any means. In the first innings, he returned with figures of 11-1-55-3. The pacer chipped in with the wickets of Haris Sohail and Asad Shafiq in quick succession when both looked settled. In the death overs, Hasan Ali spanked some boundaries to add 24 valuable runs for Pakistan.

Nevertheless, Woakes cut short the knock and dismissed him caught and bowled. He also contributed with 17 vital runs with the willow lower down the order in England’s first innings before falling prey to Mohammad Abbas. Even in Pakistan’s second innings, Woakes got rid of Sarfraz Ahmed, the Pakistani skipper and wicketkeeper-batsman.
