In a bizarre turn of events, the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh saw an unwanted guest during the penultimate day’s play. The match, which was being played at the Airforce grounds in Palam, saw a man driving his car on the ground during the day’s play. It took the players by surprise as the interruption of this kind was never seen before or even heard of in the history of cricket.
The BCCI has now assured that strict action will be taken in this particular case. The person who drove his car on the ground was later identified as Girish Sharma. Girish claimed that he had actually lost his way and ended up entering the ground since there were no security personnel deployed on the entrance. This comes as a big security blunder on the part of the organizers since several players were a part of the match.
The big names like Suresh Raina, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir were all involved in the match. As per the quotes in India TV, the BCCI acting chief CK Khanna expressed his disappointment over the incident that took place in the Ranji Trophy match. He promised strict action against the same.
“It is a serious lapse in security. The Services Sports Control Board should take full responsibility of the issue and should take action so that this kind of incident never happens again in future,” CK Khanna quoted.
Full details awaited
He further added that the board is yet to receive all the details about the same. He has ensured that similar things will not be repeated, neither in Ranji Trophy game, nor in any other fixture.
“I will talk to my colleagues in the BCCI to ensure that this thing is never repeated in future. Action will be taken on this. We are yet to get full details on the matter and we will take action the moment we know everything,” he added.
