Coaches and Player draft confirmed for Canada T20 league

Cricket Canada has announced their new league – Global T20 Canada in association with West Indies Cricket Board which consists of six teams. Five out of the six teams are Canadian teams and the sixth one from West Indies. 22 games are scheduled to be played amongst the six teams – Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Nationals, Vancouver Knights and Winnipeg Hawks from Canada and the sixth one comprising of just West Indies players.

The matches will be played from June 28th to 15th July at Maple Cricket Club near Toronto. Cricket Canada have confirmed the coaches and player draft for the five teams representing Canadian cities. Along with the Candian cricketers, there will be ten marquee International cricketers taking part in the league. Each team would be allowed to pick two marquee players.

The league will consist of big names from T20 cricket such as Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Shahid Afridi, Darren Sammy, Lasith Malinga, Steve Smith, Sunil Narine, Chris Lynn, David Miller and Dwayne Bravo. A large group of legendary mentors including Tom Moody and Waqar Younis have marked on to lead establishments in the inaugural Global T20 Canada League.

Five coaches will participate in the auction

Pakistan legendary pacer, Waqar Younis will take control of the Winnipeg Eagles, while Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, Tom Moody will take over Montreal Tigers. Phill Simmons – former West Indies cricketer will coach Toronto Nationals while Mohammad Akram and Donovan Miller will take the responsibilities of Edmonton Royals and Vancouver Knights respectively.

The five mentors will partake in the draft, where each team will take two of the 10 marquee stars – including Steve Smith, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell – and 14 extra players from an ability pool of 1,500 overall who enlisted for choice.

Smith to make a comeback

The Global T20 League is a great opportunity for the Canadian cricketers. Performing well in this tourney might provide them with a contract to play in any other T20 league such as the IPL, CPL, or BBL. On the other hand, Smith is all set to make a comeback into cricket featuring in this new league. Steven Smith has already announced that he’d donate his playing fee to grassroots cricket programs both in Australia and Canada.

Smith, who was suspended for a year for his part in the ball-tampering incident in Cape Town in March, was a month ago named as a marquee player in the competition, with Cricket Australia allowing him to play in local competitions outside Australia.
