Former Pakistan captain and flamboyant all-rounder, Shahid Afridi, has ended his association with the Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Afridi has now joined another team, Comilla Victorians, to be a part of the upcoming edition of the biggest cricket tournament in Bangladesh. The 38-year-old has a huge fan following around the world, and Bangladesh is no exception to that.
Afridi was drafted in by Comilla Victorians as their very first pick, from the A+ category. Besides the Pakistani veteran, the team from Comilla also picked the experienced and explosive Sri Lankan all-rounder, Thisara Perera, who has an illustrious record in the Bangladesh Premier League.
Afridi requests fans to come and watch them play
After his inclusion in the Comilla Victorians’ squad, Shahid Afridi came out with a message for his fans in Bangladesh, in which he urged them to support him and his team by coming to the stadiums in huge numbers and motivate them to do well in the tournament. The 38-year-old also went on to say that the team lineup on paper looks pretty strong to make things happen for Comilla. As he spoke, Afridi also let the people know that the tournament is set to get underway on the 5th of January next year and said he was really happy and excited to be a part of the Comilla Victorians.
“I am very much happy and excited to be able to be associated with Comilla Victorians. This BPL is going to start from January 5. Please, come to the ground and enjoy our game. This time our team is very strong,” Shahid was quoted. The Comilla Victorians, besides Afridi, also have Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Saifuddin, Asela Gunaratne, Liam Dawson, Evin Lewis and another former Pakistan captain, Shoaib Malik, in their team for the forthcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
Apart from Comilla Victorians, other teams like Sylhet Sixers, who have roped in the dynamo from Down Under David Warner, and Rangpur Riders, who will have Mr. 360° AB de Villiers playing for them this season, have also picked some big guns to light up the tournament.
