Conflict of Interest registers complaint against MS Dhoni on being named as India's mentor for T20 WC

As the T20 World Cup announced by BCCI came up on the table, fans became elated by MS Dhoni’s appointment as a mentor of the India side. Fans couldn’t keep calm knowing the fact that former legendary skipper will be in the Indian camp in the high-profile event. However, the latest news around the former beloved skipper isn’t good.

The BCCI Apex council has received a complaint against Dhoni citing the conflict of interest clause mentioned in the reforms of the Lodha committee. The former MP Cricket Association life member Sanjeev Gupta has put forward his complaint against the CSK skipper and sent it formally to Apex Council of BCCI citing conflict of interest in which a person cannot hold two positions simultaneously. He can’t join as a mentor of the Indian side as he is currently inc charge of CSK.

“Yes, Gupta has sent a letter to apex council members including Sourav (Ganguly) and Jay (Shah). He has cited clause 38 (4) of the BCCI constitution which loosely states that one person cannot be holding two separate posts. The Apex Council will need to consult its legal team to check the ramifications,” said a BCCI source on conditions of anonymity as quoted by The Indian Express.

MS Dhoni cannot take two charges simultaneously as per reforms

It has to be noted that as soon as the 15-member squad came to the public, fans started celebrating Dhoni’s appointment like a big show but it seems some issues have to be solved in order to get Dhoni in the Indian camp in T20 WC. Though he has quit the international format of cricket in 2020 August only, he still leads his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.

Gupta has earlier also launched complaints against various players and administrators but here it remains to be seen how issues can be rectified before October 17. It will be the first edition of the T20 World Cup for India where MS Dhoni wouldn’t be in the team as a player. India will play its first game of the World T20 on October 24 against Pakistan. Dhoni will next be seen leading CSK in the UAE leg of IPL 2021 which is set to begin from September 19.
