County Championship 2022: Shaheen Afridi's absolute peach sends back Tom Haines
Shaheen Afridi bowled an outswinger which uprooted the off stump.
Shaheen Afridi continued his excellent wicket-taking form in the ongoing County Championship Division Two game between Sussex and Middlesex. The left-arm seamer took the new ball for his side and he has been among the wickets ever since he made his debut in the tournament. In the ninth over of the innings, Afridi bowled a breathtaking delivery to remove Sussex skipper Tom Haines.
Afridi has been bowling some excellent deliveries in recent times, and he came up with a beautiful outswinger to go through the defences of the left-hander. The 22-year-old had hit the right length and some deviation in the air along with movement after pitching was enough to get rid of the batter for just 17. A lot of credit has to be given to his seam position as well along with his pace which makes it really tough for the batters.
Afridi has grown into one of the best fast bowlers going around in the international setup and he has been creating nightmares for the batters. The county stint will definitely improve his skills a lot more and he is likely to have a prolonged and excellent international career going by the way he has bowled so far. He is a much more dangerous bowler to the right-handers as he tends to bring back the ball into them and always attacks the stumps.
Here’s the stunning delivery from Shaheen Afridi to remove Haines
Earlier in the day, Sussex won the toss and opted to bat first at the County Ground in Hove and they had a good start, with just one wicket falling in the first session. Tom Alsop stole the show with a magnificent century while Alistair Orr was unlucky to be dismissed before missing out on his century by just one run. India’s Cheteshwar Pujara could not continue with his stellar performances as he was dismissed after a quickfire 10-ball 16.
