CPL 2018: Jamaica Tallawahs replace Adam Zampa with Ish Sodhi
Will he be able to make a difference for the Tallawahs?
World’s third-ranked T20I bowler Ish Sodhi has been confirmed to replace the Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa in the Jamaica Tallawahs side in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The 25-year-old though will get to play a cameo in the preliminary league as it is in the last leg but since the Tallawahs have already qualified for the playoffs, Sodhi will be a key man in the knock-out stages.
He will join a host of other Kiwi players in the team, including Ross Taylor, Colin de Grandhomme and Glenn Philips while the side is also coached by Mark O’Donnell who is also from New Zealand. The Tallawahs have played nine games so far, winning five and are placed fourth at the moment.
Sodhi’s first game on Sept 9
The news of Sodhi’s replacing Zampa was confirmed on September 4, according to Stuff.co.nz. The Australian is set to return home for their domestic season. Sodhi’s first game in the CPL will be against Guyana Amazon Warriors, which will be the Tallawahs’ final league encounter this season.
He has been part of teams having a good run in T20 cricket of late. Last year, he belonged to the side that won a T20 title in the T20 Blast. Sodhi then won a trophy for the Northern Knights in New Zealand’s domestic Super Smash tournament earlier this year and then in May, he reached the Indian Premier League playoffs, playing for Rajasthan Royals.
This year, however, his side Nottinghamshire lost to Somerset in the quarterfinals of the England T20 Blast. The leg-break bowler took 19 wickets in the competition at an average of 23 and economy rate of 8.16.
Sodhi, along with Taylor and Grandhomme, is also the part of the New Zealand T20I squad that takes on Pakistan in a three-match series that starts in the UAE on October 31. He has played 15 Tests, 22 ODIs and 26 T20Is taking 103 international wickets.
