CPL 2018: Match 6, Match Prediction- Who will win the match, Guyana Amazon Warriors or Barbados Tridents?
The Tridents had a mediocre outing last time around.
The Barbados Tridents is the only team who are yet to play a match in this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The Jason Holder-captained team will play their first match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors, who have won their first two contests in Guyana. The Tridents had a mediocre outing last time around as they could only win four matches and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Back in April, the team appointed Jason Holder as their new captain, replacing Kieron Pollard, in a bid to make amends for the lacklustre season in 2017. On the contrary, the Warriors would be relieved by the fact that they were able to brush aside St Lucia Stars in the humdinger at the same venue. Their bowling has been top notch, however, their batting hasn’t quite come into their own just yet.
Pitch
The track at Providence Stadium has thus far helped the bowlers and the batsmen have strained to put the opposition bowling attacks to the swords. The earlier two matches weren’t high-scoring by any means and the upcoming encounter isn’t speculated to be a run-fest. Also, bearing in mind the strength of both teams’ bowling attacks, it won’t be surprising if the teams opt to bat first after winning the toss.
Team Combination
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Shoaib Malik’s men will remain unchanged in all probability. Ronchi and Walton are the opening batsmen. Shimron Hetmyer has been impressive and would want to replicate his form. Sohail Tanvir is their most in-form bowler. The likes of Keemo Paul and Rayad Emrit, both of whom hasn’t been disappointing either, need to step up. Malik has also been fairly impressive as the captain.
Predicted XI
Luke Ronchi (wk), Chadwick Walton, Shimron Hetmyer, Shoaib Malik (C), Jason Mohammed, Chris Green, Sherfane Rutherford, Sohail Tanvir, Rayad Emrit, Keemo Paul, Imran Tahir
Barbados Tridents
The top-order is an explosive one for the Tridents with the players of the calibre of Dwayne Smith, Martin Guptill and Steve Smith in their ranks. The team has Wahab Riaz coming at number ten that manifests the strength of the batting. Riaz will also have Mohammad Irfan and Jason Holder, the Windies all-format skipper, as his fast-bowling partners. Imran Khan and Ashley Nurse are the spin-bowling options.
Predicted XI
Dwayne Smith, Martin Guptill, Steve Smith, Shamar Springer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Tion Webster, Jason Holder (C), Ashley Nurse, Imran Khan, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan
Probable top performers
Shimron Hetmyer- Guyana Amazon Warriors, Martin Guptill- Barbados Tridents
The prediction is for Barbados Tridents to win their first match.
