CPL 2019, Match 25, Barbados Tridents vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Match Prediction – Weather Report, Pitch Conditions, Playing XIs and Live Streaming Details
Shakib Al Hasan has joined the Tridents' squad.
Going into the last six league matches of the CPL 2019, there is still cut throat competition as three playoff berths are still up for grabs. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents are still in contention, but the pressure will be more on the former. Carlos Brathwaite and Co are left with only one match and a victory would seal their spot in the next round. A loss could land them in trouble.
In that case, the Patriots needs other results to go in their favour. As far as the Tridents are concerned, they still have three games in hand and a victory will take them to third in the table. However, the hosts can be caught napping as all their three wins have some while batting first. If they lose, then Jason Holder and Co would be under severe pressure in the last two encounters.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Barbados won’t be for the genuine fast bowlers. The extra pace could work to the advantage of the batters. The spinners will be the ones in focus and the pacers need to vary their pace in order to keep the runs in check. The pitch is expected to get slower with the progression of the game and even dew may not make much impact. There are chances of rain around 8 PM.
Team Combinations
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents have been bolstered by Shakib Al Hasan’s inclusion. The Bangladesh all-rounder is likely to replace Justin Greaves in the eleven. The southpaw will also add to the Tridents’ spin attack along with Hayden Walsh Jr, who destroyed TKR with a five-wicket haul in the last match. The move to open with Jonathan Carter paid rich dividends. The left-hander turned up with a half-century.
JP Duminy would be oozing with confidence after the fastest ever CPL fifty off 15 balls. He also got a couple of wickets in the last encounter. Though Hales is out of form, he can gain rhythm anytime. Shakib adds the experience to the batting. Harry Gurney, who replaced Dan Christian, has had two excellent outings with the ball. Jason Holder has enacted his role efficiently as a frontline bowler.
Probable XI
Johnson Charles (wk), Jonathan Carter, JP Duminy, Alex Hales, Shakib Al Hasan, Ashley Nurse, Jason Holder (C), Raymon Reifer, Roshon Primus, Hayden Walsh, Harry Gurney
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Devon Thomas got two fifties, but in the remaining seven innings, he has scored only 17 runs. He will have his task cut out. His opening partner Evin Lewis, the Patriots leading run-scorer, has to churn out a substantial knock on a difficult strip to bat. Laurie Evans has 214 runs and he’s in good shape and rhythm. Mohammad Hafeez has been disappointing, playing at a strike-rate of below 100.
Fabian Allen has been excellent and he can’t drop his guard either. Brathwaite hasn’t got going barring his fifty versus the Knights. Shamarh Brooks has been reasonable. In the bowling department, Cottoy and Hafeez’s role will be crucial, being the spinners. Sheldon Cottrell, Rayad Emrit and Alzarri Joseph have been amongst the wickets and need to carry on with their form.
Probable XI
Devon Thomas (wk), Evin Lewis, Laurie Evans, Mohammad Hafeez, Fabian Allen, Carlos Brathwaite (C), Shamarh Brooks, Keron Cottoy, Rayad Emrit, Alzarri Joseph, Jeremiah Louis
