CPL 2020: Match 19, St Lucia Zouks vs Barbados Tridents: Preview, Live Streaming, Timings, Predicted XI, Stats, Pitch Report & more
The Zouks will look to continue their winning run whereas the Tridents would want to up the ante with the tournament progressing towards the business end.
The 19th match of the CPL 2020 is scheduled between St Lucia Zouks and the Barbados Tridents on 30th August, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain. This is going to be the second –last game at this venue before the Caribbean caravan moves to Tarouba, Trinidad again.
The defending champions, Barbados Tridents, have not had the best of time this year as they have lost double the number of matches than they have won and are placed at the fourth spot in the points tally. They are coming to this match after a demolishing defeat handed to them by the unstoppable Trinbago Knight Riders.
Though Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers had put a decent show as they gave a target of 149 to the Riders, Kieron Pollard’s blitzkrieg knock of 72 from 29 dwarfed their efforts, to say the least. The Knight Riders looked in some trouble for the first time in the tournament courtesy some disciplined bowling efforts of Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, and Jason Holder. However, the big man Pollard turned counter-attacked vehemently as took on his Caribbean counterpart Hayden Walsh Jr for a toss.
St Lucia Zouks have been the second-best team after the Knight Riders and they are situated right behind them at the second spot in the points tally with 8 points to their credit. The Darren Sammy-led men are coming in this game with winning momentum as they crushed the hapless St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their last league encounter by 6 wickets. Mohammad Nabi has been in burning form throughout the season and was at his devastating best against the Patriots as he claimed his maiden T20 fifer.
Coming to chase an easy target of 111 runs, all the batsmen including Rahkeem Cornwall, Roston Chase, and Najibullah Zadran played decent knocks to see their side home and gain another two crucial points. The Zouks will look to continue their winning run whereas the Tridents would want to up the ante with the tournament progressing towards the business end.
Pitch and conditions
The fast bowlers will have something to exploit with the new ball, however, as has been the case in almost every encounter to this day, the spinners are going to get the bigger share of the cake. There have been a series of low scores in Port of Spain and that is what could be expected tonight as well. There are chances of thunderstorms but all of it towards the late night.
Playing combinations
Barbados Tridents
Johnson Charles looked fluent for his 47-run knock against the Riders and would want to contribute in the same way at the top. Shai Hope has been chaotic in his run and missed out again in the last game. Kyle Mayers has been contributing regularly and batted well in the previous game too.
Skipper Jason Holder played quite eventfully at the start of the tournament but has lost his form with the bat after some time. However, he has been bowling with admirable consistency. His ploy of promoting himself up the order did not work in the last game whereas Corey Anderson who was demoted failed to perform as well. Alongside Ashley Nurse, these three should form the middle-order for the Tridents.
Mitchell Santner and Rashid Khan have impressed persistently and are obvious picks in the eleven. Raymon Reifer looked good with the ball in the last game, however, Hayden Walsh Jr was at the receiving end after Pollard went crazy.
Predicted XI: Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (WK), Kyle Mayers, Corey Anderson, Jason Holder (C), Ashley Nurse, Rashid Khan, Raymon Reifer, Nyeem Young, Mitchell Santner, Hayden Walsh
Bench- Joshua Bishop, Shayan Jahangir, Keon Harding, Shamarh Brooks, Justin Greaves, Jonathan Carter
St Lucia Zouks
Andre Fletcher got off to a start in the last game but failed to convert it. Rahkeem Cornwall had a similar story, however, he took on the bowler with audacity in his 11-ball 26 run cameo at the top. Youngster Mark Deyal was dismissed for a golden duck and he would want to bring his start-stop run to an end this time around.
Roston Chase has been a regular performer with both bat and ball and he continued the same in the last game as well as he bowled economically and scored 27 with the bat. Their shining star Mohammad Nabi finished with some unreal figures and he would want to emulate the same. Najibullah Zadran played maturely in the last game and saw his side home. There is no change expected in this order.
Scott Kuggeliejn has been in the wickets and he is certain to play. Kesrick Williams’ form has been heartening after a few failed outings at the start of the league. Zahir Khan bowled with great consistency in the last game as he picked a wicket giving away 18 runs in his quota of four.
Predicted XI: Andre Fletcher (WK), Rahkeem Cornwall, Mark Deyal, Roston Chase, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Daren Sammy (C), Javelle Glenn, Scott Kuggeleijn, Kesrick Williams, Zahir Khan
Bench- Chemar Holder, Saad Bin Zafar, Kavem Hodge, Obed McCoy, Kimani Melius, Leniko Boucher
