CPL Winners List From 2013 to 2021

Guyana Amazon Warriors have reached the CPL finals five times but are yet to win the title.

The Caribbean Premier League is the annual cricket tournament held in the Caribbean. It is one of the most popular leagues in the World currently and has evolved well over the years. The majority of the players featuring in the league are from West Indies. Many young and talented stars have emerged from this T20 league, and have done well in other tournaments and at the international level. In this article, we will be listing out winners of each edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

2013 – Jamaica Tallawahs

In the inaugural edition in 2013, Jamaica Tallawahs won the title. They defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors by 7 wickets in the final chasing the target of 129 runs in 17.3 overs. A total of six teams have been participating in CPL since the first season.

2014 – Barbados Tridents

In the second edition of CPL, Barbados Tridents clashed against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final encounter. Batting first, Barbados scored 152/6 in 20 overs with Shoaib Malik slamming a fifty. In the chase, Guyana had scored 107/4 in 15.5 overs when rain interrupted. Eventually, Barbados were declared winners by the Duckworth-Lewis rule by 8 runs.

2015 – Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel

In the 2015 season, Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel won the trophy registering a 20-run victory over the Barbados team in the final. They scored 178/5 batting first and restricted Barbados Tridents to 158/4 in 20 overs.

2016 – Jamaica Tallawahs

Jamaica Tallawahs won their second title in 2016 defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. They dismissed the Guyana team for just 93 runs and chased down the total in 12.5 overs winning the match by 9 wickets.

2017 – Trinbago Knight Riders

In the 2017 edition, the Trinbago Knight Riders won the tournament for the first time. In the final clash, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots posted 135/6 in 20 overs. The Trinbago team won the game by 3 wickets chasing the total in 19 overs.

2018 – Trinbago Knight Riders

In the 2018 edition, the Trinbago Knight Riders won the title for the second consecutive season. They faced Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final who scored 147/9 in 20 overs batting first. In the chase, the Trinbago team achieved the target in 17.3 overs winning the game by 8 wickets.

2019 – Barbados Tridents

The Guyana Amazon Warriors team reached the finals of CPL for the fifth time in seven seasons in 2019 but failed to win the trophy again. This time, Barbados Tridents defeated them by 27 runs after scoring 171/6 in 20 overs. This was the second title for the Barbados team.

2020 – Trinbago Knight Riders

The Trinbago Knight Riders won the CPL trophy for the third time in 2020 and became the most successful team in league history. They were up against St Lucia Zouks in the final who were all-out for 154 runs in 19.1 overs. In the chase, the Trinbago team achieved the target in 18.1 overs and won the game by 8 wickets.

2021 – St Kitts & Nevis Patriots

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, under the leadership of Dwayne Bravo, won the CPL 2021 after beating the Saint Lucia Kings by three wickets in the final at the Warner Park.
