3. Shakib Al Hasan
Shakib Al Hasan was a disappointment in terms of captaincy in the recent Asia Cup 2022 for Bangladesh and there might be a case for a new leader to be groomed in time ahead of T20 World Cup 2024. Also, Shakib has been around the Bangladesh circuit for a long time now since his debut in 2006, and is among the few players to be playing from the maiden T20 World Cup in 2007.
The all-rounder has been an irreplaceable figure in Bangladesh cricket with his ability to contribute with both bat and ball consistently. His experience was one of the reasons behind Bangladesh preferring him as the leader for the Asia Cup 2022 and he has been named as the skipper for the T20 World Cup 2022.
With age not on his side, Shakib is likely to step down from captaincy after the major ICC event in Australia. He still could play for Bangladesh in the ODI World Cup next year, and for that to happen, he must definitely consider the workload. Opting out from the T20I format and Tests, could possibly be the only option for Shakib to play in the next year’s 50-over World Cup.
