The T20 World Cup 2022 fever has already started with just few more weeks to go for the mega ICC event. Rohit Sharma Rohit Sharma took up the full-time captaincy role for India across formats over a period of a couple of months after the T20 World Cup 2021, and he is yet to prove his leadership credentials in international cricket. However, he is 35 years at the moment, and the age factor might not be helpful for him to continue until the next T20 World Cup which is scheduled to take place in 2024, two years from now. Rohit also might consider retiring from the T20I format to prolong his international career and it is very important for him to manage his workload from here on. The right-hander is currently India’s best opener across formats and India will need to groom a captain if Rohit decides to retire from the T20I format. The right-hander, however, is looking to regain his form in the T20I format and believes he can contribute a lot more at the top once he finds form. The upcoming tour to India will also be helpful to see if Finch still has got the destructiveness at the top of the order. Despite Finch’s poor returns with the bat, he has been extraordinary with his captaincy and won the maiden T20 World Cup for Australia last year when the odds were against them. The 35-year-old has good numbers in the T20I format overall, which has helped the selectors to continue with him and he will need to deliver in the T20 World Cup 2022 at home. With no major T20 tournaments until 2024, Finch might consider retiring from T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2022, as he has been holding up a place in the Australian batting lineup for a long time now. Opting out from the T20I format and Tests, could possibly be the only option for Shakib to play in the next year’s 50-over World Cup. 4. Mohammad Nabi Mohammad Nabi recently led the Afghanistan side in the Asia Cup 2022 and he has been named the captain for the T20 World Cup 2022. However, Nabi is 37 years old at the moment, and hence he might probably not be part of the T20 World Cup in 2024 due to the age factor. The all-rounder has had a big part to play in the Afghanistan middle order with the bat and also with his off-spin bowling. He has been playing in a lot of T20 leagues around the world and is a valuable asset in the side. However, looking at the future of the Afghanistan side, Nabi might consider retiring from the T20Is after the T20 World Cup 2022. Kane Williamson Kane Williamson has been one of the best modern-day batters across formats, but his lack of game time due to injuries has become a concern in the recent times. The right-hander looked out of form in the recent ODIs against Australia, however, is likely to lead New Zealand in the T20 World Cup. Williamson, 32, now has a long way to go in terms of retirement, however for him to regain his old form back will be very important. With Ross Taylor retired, the new generation of New Zealand cricket needs to step up and take more responsibility. Williamson might not be able to play all three formats and captain the side, which will be an excessive workload on him and hence, he might step down from T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup 2022 to focus on his form.
