3 players from England who can make a huge impact in the fourth T20I:
3. Brydon Carse
Brydon Carse has been in exceptionally good form with the ball ever since he came into the scheme of things in place of the off-colour Gus Atkinson. A three-wicket haul was followed by a couple of wickets, while conceding only 29 and 28 runs in respective four-over spells. A glimpse of his hard-hitting expertise with the willow was seen in Chennai.
The bowling all-rounder functioning at full tilt will be crucial for the English side. Another economical and wicket-taking performance could well mean the Indian batters coming under pressure and getting dismissed in a bid to up the scoring rate.
2. Jamie Smith
Having made his debut in ODIs anb Tests in 2023 and 2024, respectively, Jamie Smith made his T20I debut in this series. Coming in at a difficult moment in the game, he looked good for the brief 12-ball period at the crease in the second T20I. However, his 22-run knock came to an end as he holed out to long-off. Smith did not last long in the most recent match as he was dismissed for just 6.
Smith's contribution in the middle-order would be essential in determining the amount of runs England would end up posting. In the 72 T20s he has played so far, Smith strikes at 138.33. Smith will be expected to strike at a similar tempo or even greater for enhancing his side's chances.
1. Ben Duckett
After registering single-digit scores in the first two T20Is, Ben Duckett finally came to the party with a brisk half-century in an innings which had seven fours and two maximums. It was only his second fifty in the 15 T20I innings.
The opening combination has not fired until now. While a lot more would be expected from Phil Salt, Duckett would have a significant burden on his shoulders to get the visitors off to a good start in the remaining games.
