The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Deceber 27, announced the Indian squads for the upcoming home white-ball series against Sri Lanka starting January 3. It is India’s new-look squad as the selectors have given an opportunity to some youngsters with an eye on T20 World Cup 2024.
The Men in Blue will be led by star all-rounder Hardik Pandya while Virat Kohli has been given a break. Regular skipper Rohit Sharma is yet to recover from his thumb injury while KL Rahul has also taken a break for his marriage.
Notably, three players who were a part of the India squad for the last month’s New Zealand tour have been dropped for the upcoming series. Without further ado, here’s a look at three of them.
3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
The selectors have included the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, Harshal Patel, Shivam Mavi and Mukesh Kumar in the pace department, leaving out veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhuvneshwar, who had a hot and cold T20 World Cup campaign in Australia, was included in squad for New Zealand series. While he was economical, picking up 1/12 in three overs at an economy of four, he went wicketless in the final game, conceding 35 from his four overs at an economy of 8.8.
Thus, with an eye on the future, the selectors and the team management might have decided not to give the UP cricketer another chance and go for the youngsters instead.
