In the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a mouthwatering clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Both teams are still in contention to qualify for the Playoffs this time around and with only a few games remaining, a win would be the utmost priority for the sides.

CSK are coming into the game on the back of a defeat at their home against Punjab Kings themselves. It was a poor show with the bat and ball, but the defending champions would be hoping for a clinical display away from home in this day game in Dharamsala.

Ahead of this crucial clash, let's take a look at how the Chennai Super Kings would line up tomorrow against the Punjab Kings.

Here's the probable playing XI for CSK versus PBKS IPL 2024 clash:

Openers: Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ajinkya Rahane is not having a great time this season with the bat and needs a strong innings in the upcoming game against Punjab Kings. In ten matches so far this year, Rahane has only managed to score 199 runs at an underwhelming average of 22.11. The team management have shown faith in him that he can be a great opener and can play with aggressive intent right from the start.

The captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in remarkable form off late and has been doing the bulk of the scoring for his side in the tournament so far. He is currently leading the race for the Orange Cap and might look to perform well for the franchise once again against PBKS tomorrow.

Middle order: Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni (wk)

Daryl Mitchell finally showed his class with the bat as he notched up a great fifty against Lucknow Super Giants. He was unlucky not to get many deliveries against Punjab Kings, but might look to notch a big one tomorrow afternoon.

After receiving his maiden call-up for the World Cup squad of the Indian team, the batter could not make a mark in the previous game as he got dismissed for a duck. However, the batter has been in great touch and has been playing with a great strike rate and would look to continue his good run against Punjab Kings as well.

The former captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has been in impeccable form and has been timing the ball extremely well. His cameos have been highly crucial for the franchise in setting up big totals. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has been handy behind the stumps as well.

All-rounders: Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur

There has been a lot of animosity around the selection of Moeen Ali, but the all-rounder has been getting great contributions with both bat and ball. The English all-rounder might be a key player since it is a day game and dew might not play a role at all, so he can be a great option with the ball.

There was a little concern of Ravindra Jadeja's recent form, but a fifty in one of the previous games might have settled that debate. With the ball, he has started to show his magic as well since he has been scalping wickets and has also been economical. The man from Jamnagar will be a key component for the team against Punjab Kings tomorrow.

Shardul Thakur has become one of the key players in the bowling attack of the Super Kings, and the pace bowling all-rounder has continued his knack of taking wickets at crucial junctures of the game. The Palghar Express has been scalping wickets whenever called upon which is a great thing for the team and can be a handy batter lower down the order as well.

Bowlers: Richard Gleeson, Mukesh Choudhary, Matheesha Pathirana

A lot of pressure will be on the shoulders of Richard Gleeson from the next game onwards as he will be the leader of the bowling attack in the absence of Deepak Chahar and Mustafizur Rahman. The English pacer will have to come good for his side in the remaining league matches, with key bowlers missing out from the squad.

With Deepak Chahar missing out, Mukesh Choudhary might get a chance in the playing XI. The pacer was a regular for the franchise for the past couple of seasons and would look to make his mark this season and scalp wickets for the team with the new ball.

Lastly, Matheesha Pathirana will play the role of being the main man during the death overs. The pacer picked three crucial wickets in the last game, and has had a decent season so far. The Sri Lankan pacer has also been a miser when it comes to his economy rate in the ongoing edition. As a result, he will have his tasks set for the Dharamsala encounter.
