IPL 2025: CSK vs RCB, Match 8 – Full highlights, top moments & winner details
RCB achieved their first victory at Chepauk since 2008.
Match No. 8 of IPL 2025 between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru won by RCB by 50 runs on Friday, March 28. RCB secured their first win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after 16 years and 10 months.
RCB posted 196/7 on the board. Phil Salt started off the innings in explosive style. He departed for a rapid-fire 32-run knock. Virat Kohli could never get going, departing for 31 (30). However, Rajat Patidar's fifty-run knock in adddition to Tim David's late surged provided RCB with the much-needed impetus. The five overs of spin from Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin proved expensive for CSK, yielding a total of 59 runs. Noor Ahmad ended with a three-wicket haul to his name.
Josh Hazlewood's twin strikes of Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad in his first over dented CSK's hopes early on. Rachin Ravindra top-scored with 41. However, the game was all but gone when the left-handed top-order batter was dismissed in the 13th over. The middle phase proved to be the end of the hosts, as they could never accelarate. MS Dhoni ended the game with 30 off 16 deliveries, securing 16 off the final over of Krunal Pandya.

Key Moments from CSK vs RCB, Match 8 of IPL 2025
1. Lightning-fast glovework by MS Dhoni ends Phil Salt's stay
It was the second time in consecutive matches that Dhoni's reflexes got the better of the batter. This time around, it was Salt's turn to bear the brunt. The bowler on both instances was Noor Ahmad. Salt failed to pick Noor's googly and was beaten on the outside edge. The nature of Salt's intended shot meant his back foot was lifted for a split second before being planted back in the crease. The split-second delay was enough for Dhoni to whip off the bails.
2. Josh Hazlewood's double strike rocks CSK
Hazlewood's first over brought about a couple of dismissals. A hard-length delivery caught Rahul Tripathi beaten for pace, as all the opening batter could do was lob the ball off the splice of the bat to Salt at mid-wicket. The second wicket came off the final delivery of the same over. Substitute fielder, Manoj Bhandage, pouched the catch at deep fine leg to get rid of Gaikwad for a four-ball duck.
3. Dhoni unleashes vintage game by smacking 16 off final over of the game
Although the match was done and dusted way before the final over of the contest, Dhoni brought out his classic power-hitting game to take 16 runs off Krunal's second over. A couple of consecutive maximums over deep midwicket and deep square leg was followed up by a final-ball four off a bouncer-like delivery.
