IPL 2024: Gujarat Titans strongest predicted playing XI against Delhi Capitals

Gujarat Titans (GT) will be up against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 32nd match of the IPL 2024. The match is set to take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on the April 17, 2024 at 7:30 PM (IST). The last time these two sides faced each other at the venue, DC won a low-scoring thriller. Ishant Sharma bowled a brilliant spell, including a great last over where he defended 13 runs to clinch the win for his side. The home side would be hoping to change the result this time around.

DC won their previous match against LSG which was very much required for them. The comeback of Kuldeep Yadav and the debut of Jake Fraser-McGurk was much needed, too. The duo played a key role for DC to win the match. On the other hand, GT won their last game against the table toppers, Rajasthan Royals. They remain the only team to have beaten RR in the league so far. A brilliant finish from the duo of Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan helped GT win the match.

Titans are placed in the sixth spot in the points table. They have three wins and losses each in their six matches. DC is placed in the ninth position in the points table, a position above RCB. They have two wins and four losses to their name in six matches so far. Both teams would be looking forward to the game which would be crucial for them. DC might be in need to win by a big margin given their net run rate. GT would be hoping to give their best performance in front of the home crowd.

Here is the predicted XI of GT for the 32nd match of IPL 2024 against DC -

Openers - Shubman Gill (C) and Sai Sudharsan

At the top of the order, GT is likely to continue with the duo of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. The young duo bat in different ways and contribute to the team. While Shubman is an aggressive batter by nature, Sai is more of an anchor. Gill can take the game away from the opponents after getting set in the middle. Sudharsan allows batters to bat around him in an aggressive way. The left-right combination might work well for the 2022 champions.

Gill has been one of the best batters in the league in the last three seasons. In the ongoing season, the star batter has been good. In the last two games, the GT captain has registered mammoth scores. He would be hoping to continue the good form with the bat. Sai was good in the first four matches for GT. The Southpaw was the highest run-scorer in each of the first three matches for his side. He probably needs to be a bit more aggressive given that it would be a night game.

Middle Order - Matthew Wade (WK), Abhinav Manohar, and Shahrukh Khan 

In the middle order, GT has some of the most talented batters. They have Matthew Wade who played a key role in Australia's T20 World Cup 2021 semifinal. Since then, the Southpaw has played some good knocks for Australia in T20Is. But he has yet to replicate the same in the IPL in the chances he has gotten. GT is likely to drop Vijay Shankar as he has not proven himself as a matchwinner in the ongoing league. To replace him, the 2023 finalists have a lot of options.

The Australian will also keep wickets for GT. To follow Wade, the home side has emerging batters like Abhinav Manohar and Shahrukh Khan. Manohar does the job as the lower middle order batter more often than not. He acts as a bridge between the top 4 and the finishers. GT has the caliber of Shahrukh, who can win matches on his own. The TN player can contribute both with the bat and with the ball. The key to getting the best from him would be to not put pressure and allow him to express himself. 

All-Rounders - Azmatullah Omarzai and Rahul Tewatia

In the All-Rounders department, GT has a lot of options. The biggest of them is Azmatullah Omarzai who was brilliant for Afghanistan in the ODI WC 2023. He was one of the emerging players from the big tournament and won a lot of matches for his side. The star player was dropped from GT for the last two matches. But he needs to be backed by the management. With the new ball, he can be good with the early swing. He can add some valuable runs in the middle order.

To assist him, GT has the strength of Rahul Tewatia. In the last 4-5 seasons, the Southpaw has been one of the best finishers in the league. The Haryana cricketer can bowl if necessary. Due to the Impact Player rule, he is not used as much by GT. Tewatia has played fine cameos in the last three matches. In addition to them, the home side has some very good options like Darshan Nalkande. Shahrukh can also be handy as a bowler. Rashid Khan can be good as a finisher with the bat.

Bowlers - Rashid Khan, Umesh Yadav, Spencer Johnson, Noor Ahmad, and Mohit Sharma (Impact substitute)

With the new ball, GT is likely to continue with Umesh Yadav, The experienced pacer can swing the ball early in the innings. He can also extract a bit of bounce, He needs to be used well. To assist him with the new ball would be Spencer Johnson and Omarzai. Johnson can extract a bit of bounce due to his height and the nature of the surface in Ahmedabad. In the death overs, he has good yorkers and bouncers. He is likely to bowl in the powerplay and the death overs.

To bowl from the other end at the death, GT has the experience of Mohit Sharma. With his slower ones, cutters, yorkers, and wide yorkers, Mohit becomes a wicket-taking bowler. He will bowl two overs in the middle overs. To bowl alongside him in the phase, GT has two Afghanistan spin bowlers like Rashid Khan. After getting hammered earlier in the season, Rashid has found mojo in the last two games. Last but not the least, Noor Ahmad has been brilliant as usual and can take wickets in the phase.
