Some of the players performed badly despite being paid highly by their franchises.
The IPL is known to be a cash-rich league. Players from different parts of the world can be a part of the league and earn a lot of money by playing a little over two months of cricket. The lives of the individuals change with a single contract in the league. Without a doubt, skills that are unique are valued and have a huge demand. Some such players were highly expensive at the start of the IPL 2024, the 17th edition of the league.
While some of them fared well and managed to do justice to their price tags, others could not do well. While some felt that there was pressure on the players to perform given the price tag, others felt that the poor form would have contributed to the failure of the players. Some players played well and were being paid highly. It is time to look at the players who flopped in the group stage despite being paid highly.
Here are the most expensive flops after the league stage of IPL 2024:
1. Sameer Rizvi
Sameer Rizvi was brought by CSK for a price of INR 8.4 crores, making him the highest-paid uncapped player of the season. The youngster could not live up to the expectations and the price tag. He scored 51 runs in five innings at a batting average of 12.75, at a batting SR of 118.60 with a best score of 21.
2. Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph was brought for a price of INR 11.50 crores, making him the most expensive buy from RCB for the season. The West Indian bowler was poor in his show and cost RCB some games with his bowling. In three games, the right-arm pacer claimed a solitary wicket at a bowling average of 115.00, a bowling SR of 58.00, and an economy rate of 11.89.
