Chennai Super Kings will start the title defence at their home in Chepauk, on Saturday, March 22.
6. Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Changed their name, changed their logo, will it change their fate? Time will tell but at this moment, it looks like Royal Challengers Bengaluru haven’t learned their lessons from the past. Batting looks sorted with Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Rajat Patidar and Dinesh Karthik in the mix but bowling once again is a massive concern for the team.
When it comes to pacers, Mohammed Siraj will lead the attack, with either of Vijaykumar Vyshak or Yash Dayal as the other Indian pacer. When it comes to foreigners, they will have to choose between Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph. It looks decent on the papers but when it comes to spinners, RCB have a lot of reason to worry. They will heavily bank on Karn Sharma, who hasn’t been in good form lately and he will have Maxwell by his side but neither of them are match-winners with the ball. Overall, bowling seems to be a major issue, especially when they have a relatively smaller home ground in M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In batting, the focus will be on Faf and Virat - who had a sensational season last year. They will once again hope to repeat the same and this time, help the team qualify for the playoffs. The addition of Green will boost their chances massively, as he has been a match-winner for Australia in any format of the game. Maxwell too is in remarkable form, while Patidar and Karthik may not be in good form but they are match-winners nevertheless. Meanwhile, finding the right balance will be RCB’s biggest challenge this season, if they can solve that, they can make it to the playoffs.
