IPL: Here is how Lucknow Super Giants have fared in playoffs over the years
Lucknow Super Giants have qualified for playoffs for the second year in a row.
Playing brilliant cricket on a consistent basis is one of the hardest things to do in the Indian Premier League. Since the competition is so intense and because every outfit gives their all on the pitch, winning games on a regular basis is not just tough but a very difficult job.
Under the able leadership of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings cracked the code in the early stages of the competition while Mumbai Indians took some time but finally cracked it and because of this, they are the most successful franchise in the history of the cash-rich league.
On the other hand, when Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants were first introduced in the competition, they brought a lot of passion with them but there were question marks on their future as the teams didn’t have any history or experience in the tournament before. Nevertheless, both teams qualified for the playoffs in their debut season (2022) and have done it in the ongoing season as well and that proves the kind of cricket they have played so far.
When it comes to Lucknow Super Giants particularly, in the 2022 season, the KL Rahul-led side was phenomenal and finished third on the points table. Throughout the course of the season, the skipper himself, along with Quinton de Kock, Mohsin Khan, Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan and many others performed to the best of their abilities.
However, in the Eliminator match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the team failed to chase down 208 runs and lost the match by 14 runs. Rahul scored 79 runs off 58 deliveries but other players failed to live up to their potential.
In the ongoing IPL 2023, the team has once again made it to the top four. Rahul got ruled out because of a thigh injury in the middle of the season but under the leadership of Krunal Pandya, LSG have qualified for the playoffs and will now take on the five-time champions Mumbai in the Eliminator at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 24.
Can their fortune change this year and will LSG qualify for Qualifier 2 and finally stake a claim for the prestigious title? Only time will tell.
