In his 16-year IPL career, Shikhar Dhawan has played some notable knocks against the three-time runners-up.
1. 73 off 52 in 2012
Dhawan served the 2009 IPL champions Deccan Chargers for two seasons (2011 and 2012). In those two years, he played 29 games in the league and became the third-leading run-scorer for the side. In 2012, the Chargers couldn’t live up to their fans’ expectations but Dhawan grabbed a lot of eyeballs for his stunning batting performance.
Against RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, he played an unbeaten 73-run innings for the Chargers in a losing cause. Batting first after losing the toss, Chargers erected 181 runs on the board and Dhawan played an essential role with his bat. Opening with Daniel Harriss, he built an 86-run partnership in just 11.5 overs. Following Harris’ departure, he got Cameron White’s support to help the team post a mammoth total on the board.
His unbeaten 73-run innings came in 52 deliveries with 11 boundaries (10 fours and a maximum). Chargers failed to defend the total but Dhawan’s spunky innings got appreciated among fans.
