T20 World Cup 2022: Match 17 - Predicted Netherlands Playing XI vs Bangladesh
The Netherlands take on Bangladesh in their first Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
The Bellerive Oval in Hobart will see the Netherlands take on Bangladesh in Match 17 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday (October 24). The Netherlands have shown that they can compete against the heavyweight sides based on their performances in the First Round.
Moreover, the side is riding high on confidence as they finished second in their group in the First Round despite losing to Sri Lanka in their final game. Skipper Scott Edwards has been leading the side from the front and it has paid off as they earned a Super 12 stage qualification. However, the side will need to push themselves in the upcoming fixtures if they are to make it to the semi-finals.
On the other hand, the Bangla tigers have a quality side but have failed to click collectively on the big occasions. The side will aim for a collective effort to get off to a winning start. Bangladesh were defeated at the hands of the Mohammad Nabi-led Afghanistan in their warm-up fixture and the side will hope to read the Australian conditions swiftly to get off the mark in style.
Looking at the bigger picture, weather reports suggest that fans may witness showers from around the time the match starts. It remains to be seen if the conditions get any better and we see a good encounter between the two.
Let’s look at Netherlands’ probable playing XI against Bangladesh:
Openers: Max O'Dowd and Vikramjit Singh
Max O'Dowd has been the most lethal from the side and it is more than likely that the player will open the match for the Dutch side against Bangladesh. O'Dowd has scored 129 runs in his three outings thus far in the tournament that included a sensational knock of 71* runs off just 53 balls with a strike rate of 133.96.
Vikramjit Singh is likely to join O'Dowd on the pitch as the second opener. The batter has not hit the ground running as of yet but has the potential to anchor the innings and pick up with his big shots later on.
Middle-order: Bas de Leede, Colin Ackermann, Tom Cooper and Scott Edwards (c & wk)
Bas de Leede is another batter who has been consistent with his game and can give the side a good score. Both de Leede and Ackermann can make rapid strides and keep the score board ticking. However, the issue is that Ackermann has not read the Australian conditions well to help his side get an edge over other teams. He will look to impress in the fixture against Bangladesh.
Like many other batters in the squad, Cooper has been inconsistent with his game but what better occasion than the World Cup Super 12 round to get back to form? While the Bangladesh bowlers will be eager to rip apart the batting line-up, Cooper, who is a veteran will look to use his experience.
Wicketkeeper captain Edwards was praised for his flamboyant leadership in the previous matches. Despite his excellent leadership skills, the batter has not got the side big scores and has been struggling to get the runs. He will surely hope to use the Bangladesh game to his advantage and instantly turn things around.
All-rounder: Tim Pringle, Shariz Ahmad and Timm van der Gugten
Tim Pringle, the youngster, has evolved into a vastly improved player for the squad who can turn the ball and can execute quite a few shots with the bat. The left-arm spinner can bamboozle batters with his slower deliveries, and this could keep Bangladesh batters on their toes.
In the previous match against Sri Lanka, Roelof van der Merwe had got injured and is very likely to be replaced as the management could go for Shariz Ahmad as their first all-rounder for this fixture. Ahmad has the potential of bowling the googly and can provide runs for the side with the bat. However, his inexperience at the grand stage might work against him.
van der Gugten is one of the most potent threats who can provide breakthroughs when the side is on the backfoot. The Dutch national side will hope he adds more threat with the ball.
Bowlers: Paul van Meekeren, Fred Klaassen
Paul van Meekeren scalped two wickets in his four overs in the First Round against Sri Lanka giving away only 25 runs. The seamer can add threat with his pace and is capable of getting extra bounce from the Australian pitches.
Fred Klaassen proved to be costly in his match against the Lankan side as he leaked runs at a rate of 8.50 in his four overs. Bangladeshi batters could punish him if he continues the level of performance he displayed in the match against Sri Lanka.
Netherlands predicted XI against Bangladesh: Max O'Dowd, Vikramjit Singh, Bas de Leede, Tom Cooper, Colin Ackermann, Scott Edwards (c & wk), Tim Pringle, Shariz Ahmad, Timm van der Gugten, Fred Klaassen, Paul van Meekeren
