T20 World Cup 2022: One bowler from each side who can bowl Super Over during the tournament

The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup is less than 20 days away and will be held in Australia for the first time. All 16 teams participating in the tournament have announced their 15-member squad, and it is all set up to be yet another mouthwatering month of T20I cricket.

Super Over, or a one-over eliminator, always plays a significant role in major tournaments. It comes into play when the two teams are tied at the end of the regulation 40 overs of play in T20s. The bowling team must nominate one bowler to bowl the penultimate over. The batting team is all-out if they lose two wickets.

Like in regulation play, the team batting second will chase the target set by the other team in the super over. The team usually turns to their best bowler on the day to contain the best batters in the opposition, with virtually no margin for error. It is an enormous responsibility on the shoulders of the bowler as the entire team’s result depends on those six balls bowled in the eliminator.

Here we pick one bowler from each side (top 8 teams only) who can bowl the super over during the T20 World 2022:

Afghanistan: Rashid Khan 

Rashid Khan has been one of the best white bowlers in the world over the last five years, and arguably the best spinner in the circuit at the moment. He is the bowler Afghanistan turn to whenever there is a problem. He has all the skill-set of a leg-spinner, from a stock delivery to googly to flipper to the slider, he is one of the most difficult to face in limited overs.

Due to Rashid’s quick arm action, his balls just zip off the surface onto the batters, making it tricky for the batters to read. The super over responsibilities are generally given to pacers, but if any spinner is in contention to be one of the best death bowlers, it is Rashid.

In 2022, Rashid has taken 15 wickets in 15 T20Is with an economy rate of 6.40. He is also ranked number four in the format after Josh Hazlewood, Tabraiz Shamsi and Adil Rashid. He might look to bowl flat and quick, as he usually does, and take the ball away from the batters, during the super over.
