T20 World Cup2022: 5 issues India need to address ahead of mega event
The recent losses have made it clear that India have a few areas of concern that need to be addressed immediately.
The T20 World Cup is around the corner, and India, the number one T20I side in the world will go into the tournament as one of the favourites to lift the trophy. However, in recent times, the Men in Blue have been at the receiving end of some shocking losses and that has raised a few question marks on them.
Following their famous away series victory against a strong England side, the fans had every reason to believe that Rohit Sharma’s side were more than capable of living up to the expectations of a billion Indian fans to get the trophy home after 15 years. And they followed it up with yet another statement win against West Indies in the Caribbean.
Then came the Asia Cup 2022, where India were thorough favourites to defend their title yet again. India, as expected topped the group and comfortably qualified for the Super 4. However, India lost their first two Super 4 games and were out of the competition. And they also lost the first T20I against Australia of the ongoing three-match series, failing to defend 208 runs. With the World Cup being less than a month away, it is clear that India have a few areas of concern that they need to address immediately.
Here are five issues India need to address ahead of 2022 T20 World Cup
1. Death bowling
India boasts one of the best bowling attacks on paper, as far as death-bowling is concerned. Bumrah is undoubtedly one of the most complete bowlers in the world. When it comes to T20Is, his versatile nature of being able to bowl at any stage of the innings brings a lot to the table for the side.
Bumrah, at the death, gives virtually nothing to the batters due to his consistency and accuracy to nail the yorkers. Although, a major concern has been his absence from the team for a lengthy period due to injury. And it is important that he gets some game time under his belt. Arshdeep, like Bumrah, has shown that he also can bowl those toe-crushers and cramp batters for room.
Harshal, who came in for Arshdeep in the previous game, did not have a great outing, especially at the death, despite having a reputation for being a handy death bowler. And alongside him was Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has had a torrid time in the final overs of late. Despite having the tools, India have struggled to limit the scoring rate in the final overs. And it is vital for India that Harshal and Bhuvneshwar find their rhythm again.
