T20 World Cup2022: 5 issues India need to address ahead of mega event
The recent losses have made it clear that India have a few areas of concern that need to be addressed immediately.
2. Fielding
As the saying goes, catches win matches, India definitely have learnt this the hard way. India, over the last five years or so, have created a reputation of being one of the fittest and best fielding sides in white-ball cricket. With the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli around, the bars have been raised, and a lot of emphasis has been given to being prompt and clinical in the outfield.
While this has improved the standards of fielding in the team, India have failed to hold on to a few regular catches in recent games, which proved to be costly. Arshdeep Singh’s dropped catch of Asif Ali in the Asia Cup will live in the memories of every Indian fan for a long time, given how it impacted the match and the tournament.
In the first T20I against Australia, India dropped as many as three catches and eventually failed to defend 200 plus runs on a batting paradise in Mohali. They simply cannot afford to keep dropping catches at this level going forward. And this would be undoubtedly one of the main talking points in the Indian camp at the moment.
