10 Indian players who broke into international circuit through IPL performances
IPL has been a platform for young, talented cricketers to showcase their skills and make a case to break into the international circuit.
1. Ravichandran Ashwin
An up-and-coming talent from the Indian domestic circuit named Ravichandran Ashwin was quite terrific in the third edition of the T20 extravaganza and was one of the chief architects of Chennai Super Kings’ maiden IPL title triumph. He featured in 12 games and bagged 13 wickets at an outstanding economy of 6.10.
Ashwin broke into the Indian white-ball team riding on splendid performances in the IPL. He made his first appearance in both the limited-over formats in June 2010. The ace off-spinner was a consistent performer in first-class cricket and went on to make his Test debut in November 2011.
However, not many would have anticipated back then that Ashwin would go on to become a giant of a player in world cricket. The ace spinner has spun the web around the opposition and wreaked havoc with the ball. Test cricket has been happy hunting ground where he has bagged 474 wickets in 92 matches. Besides his bowling might, the Chennai-born has been a handy contributor with the bat for the Men in Blue.
