India have played quality cricket in the World Cup 2023 under Rohit Sharma to storm into the final after winning ten consecutive games. Now, the stage is set for the Men in Blue to lift the coveted World Cup trophy on November 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

However, the five-time champions will clash against Australia, who are looking to spoil the hosts’ party and win the title for the sixth time. Rohit Sharma and Co. will have to be cautious of the Pat Cummins-led side as there are instances to recount where the Men in Yellow wrecked India’s dreams of winning massive International Cricket Council (ICC) competitions in the past.

Here are the three instances when Australia wrecked India’s hopes in the ICC events

Before the 2023 World Cup, India and Australia faced each other in the WTC final 2023 at the Oval. At the toss, Rohit Sharma emerged victorious and invited the Aussies to bat first. After the early fall of top-order batters, Steven Smith and Travis Head stood at the crease and stitched a 285-run partnership.

Smith went back to the pavilion after scoring 121 while the southpaw notched up 163 runs. The batting efforts from both players helped the Aussies to post 469 runs on the board. Following the humongous total, India could rack up only 296 runs riding on Ajinkya Rahane’s fine knock of 89 (129).

After achieving a 173-run lead, Australia added 270 runs in the second innings which set a target of 444 runs for India. Chasing the enormous target, India failed to handle pressure and capitulated on 234. In the end, Australia emerged victorious by 209 runs, and India’s dream of winning the WTC mace was shattered for the second time. Head received the Player of the Match award for his stunning batting performance.
