3 players who might retire after the upcoming edition of TNPL
After the TNPL 2023 installment, these three players might call time on their league career.
1. Rajagopal Sathish (Chepauk Super Gillies)
Rajagopal Sathish is one of the most experienced players in the league. In 2016, Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) appointed Sathish their captain. With his experience and capability, he took his team to the final but on D-Day, Gillies lost to Tuti Patriots and ended up as runners-up in the competition.
In 2017, Sathish bagged the maiden title for Super Gillies with his leadership skills, however, his batting performance in the competition was underwhelming as he could score only 70 runs in nine matches at an extremely poor strike rate of 98.59. The right-handed batter joined VB Kanchi Veerans in 2019 and for his new team, he looked fierce with his bat and racked up 178 runs in eight games at a strike rate of 183.50.
The veteran rejoined CSG in 2021 and powered his side to win their third title as a batter, scoring 141 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 145.36. Super Gillies became the joint champions with Lyca Kovai Kings (LKK) in the previous season but this time, Sathish’s performance was non-satisfactory as he scored only 80 runs in eight innings of nine games. Currently, Sathish is 42 years old, and considering his age, it could be said that he might hang up his boots after the 2023 TNPL edition.
