4 Teams that might target Rilee Rossouw in IPL 2024 auction
His vast experience in league cricket might convince some franchises to fetch him in the 2024 IPL auction.
In the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw was Delhi Capitals’ (DC) one of the important buys due to his batting excellence. The franchise invested INR 4.6 crore in him to reserve his services for the 2023 season. However, the Protea batter failed to justify his role in the team with his underwhelming batting numbers.
Rossouw is known for his hard-hitting abilities in the cricketing circle but he consistently failed to counter bowlers in the 2023 IPL. Playing nine matches, he could score only 209 runs at a dismal average of 29.85. Noting his disappointing performance, the Capitals have parted ways with him and he will now go under the hammer again.
In the 2024 IPL auction, Rossouw’s base amount will be INR 2 crore but considering his sensational batting talent, some franchises might show faith in him for the upcoming tournament. The 34-year-old has played a lot of league cricket and he has the potential to play impactful innings in the cash-rich league.
Here are the five teams that might go after Rilee Rossuw in the upcoming auction
4. Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans’ (GT) batting unit will be strengthened with the New Zealand veteran Kane Williamson’s comeback but in the middle order, they will need a bankable name who can support David Miller. In 2023, the GT team management tried Dasun Shanaka for three matches but he failed to deliver the desired results.
In the upcoming auction, they may trust Rossouw to do this task as the Protea has played a lot of cricket with his national teammate David Miller. His equation with the southpaw can work in GT’s favour. Along with this fact, Rossouw’s batting style is also something that can attract Titans.
In middle overs, Rossouw has the potential to create pressure on bowlers with his aggressive batting attitude. After releasing nine players from the team last month, GT will go with an amount of INR 38.5 crore, and they will look to rope in quality players in the team.
